This fellow is a funny one. He runs thru the restaurant every morning up the almond tree where he stuffs his cheeks full of almonds before descending the trunk and running back thru be there people or not the whole restaurant over to his home in the back of the property. So cute

Summer kickoff

On Tuesday June 1 we will reopen KOKi with a new menu and a layer of fresh paint to kick off the summer. Weather has been amazing with sunny clear blue skies welcoming our visitors. Happy hour starts at 5PM and we hope to see you all there.

Comparsa @ KOKi Beach

A comparsa (conga de comparsa) is the band which plays a conga during a Latin American Carnival celebration. It consists of a large group of dancers wearing costumes dancing to a group of musicians playing percussions, drums (bongos), frying pans, tambores, cowbells and other instruments. It often travels on the streets, followed by a Carrosa (carriage) where the musicians play. The Comparsa is a development of African processions where groups of devotees followed a given saint or deity during a particular religious celebration. Some of the comparsas have a long history, with costumes and traditions passed down from one generation to the next

We finalized our new covered outdoor dining area and added a lounge area. We are opening tonight and will remain open thru Christmas with a special menu in addition to our a la carte and the same goes for New Years Eve. Come by and check out our improvements

KOKi Beach review in Tico Times

We had a wonderful meal at the new Koki Beach Restaurant in Puerto Viejo, across from Stanford’s. The ambience was excellent, the food great, the cocktails well done and the service prompt and friendly. Their complimentary yuca chips and dips are the bomb. We highly recommend the place.

In the lull leading up to the Holidays we decided to add an additional roof facing the beach on the upper deck that will shade our guests from the sun and keep them dry during occasional showers. The cover lets thru the light while shield from the heat and traditional cana brava placed underneath will bring the unmistakable Caribbean feel. Our friends at ReciCaribe provided their expertise in repurposing empty wine bottles into beautiful pendant lamps for the new covered dining area. Our trees in the center of the restaurant will remain as centerpiece as always and today a new resident was spotted sunbathing on some stones in our garden by the office - a brown land turtle.

EXTRA EXTRA ! KOKI Beach in the news again !

The winner of the 2009 TRANSAT arrived at 10.30 last night greeted by fireworks, music and a huge crowd in a celebratory mood. The runner up arrived only 45 minutes behind. First time ever a double hull contestant has won the competition ever and the organizers professed their satisfaction with Costa Rica as their goal line. This has put a lot of attention on our corner of the country and KOKi Beach is once again in the news with Art Nautica. Front page no less.

Art Nautica 2009 in the news

La Nacion, Costa Ricas daily newspaper, covered Art Nautica at KOKi Beach.

"Costa Rican artists Mario Maffioli and Fabio Herrera mounted an exhibition at KOKi Beach, Puerto Viejo, in tribute to the southern Caribbean to coincide with the arrival of the TRANSAT boat race in Limon.

The exhibition comprises of six acrylics by each artist produced in large format. According to Maffioli all the works were painted in Puerto Viejo and they see the exhibition as a way to thank the town for its hospitality towards the artists for the last 25 years.

"The works are representative of the area and human daily life and its surroundings and its exuberant nature" says Maffioli

He presents abstract works while Herrera presents figurative paintings. The TRANSAT will enable the artist to show their works to a large number of foreign tourists who visits the area for the competition"

Art Nautica

Last night we opened Art Nautica and a early evening shower didn't stop the enthusiastic crowd from enjoying the works displayed at KOKi Beach.
